Sixth annual bowl game promises fun for the family

-

Texarkana has long been a football town. We have four local high schools that draw crowds at every game. We have devoted fans for such college teams as the Arkansas Razorbacks, Texas Longhorns, Texas A&M Aggies, LSU Tigers and many more. And of course the Dallas Cowboys always get a lot of support from both sides of State Line Boulevard.

And today football fans will have the opportunity to see the best in NCAA Division II college ball as the Southern Arkansas University Muleriders take on the Missouri Western State University Griffons at the Agent Barry Live United Bowl.

This is the sixth year for the bowl game, which has raised thousands of dollars over the years for the United Way of Greater Texarkana.

Gates open at 10. a.m. at Arkansas High School’s Razorback Stadium and play starts at noon. For early birds, there’s even a 5K run that starts at 8 a.m. at the stadium.

And it looks like the weather will cooperate this year. The bowl game hasn’t always been so lucky. But today’s forecast calls for sunny skies and temperatures in the comfortable mid-60s. That should mean a great day for the the whole family.

The Agent Barry Live United Bowl is a great sporting event that supports a great cause. It’s something that brings in visitors from out of town—which is good for the local economy— and gives local residents a chance to see some fine football along with fine musical entertainment.

No matter who emerges victorious in the bowl game, it’s a win-win all around. We hope to see you there.
