Veterans Council to hold chili cook-off

-

The Texarkana Area Veterans Council will hold its 20th Annual Chili Cook-Off fundraiser from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Feb. 15 inside Texarkana College’s Truman Arnold Student Center.

Tickets to the cook-off will be sold on site for $6 each and will allow the purchaser to sample each chili entry as well as be eligible for a post cook-off drawing for door prizes.

As in years past, all chili cooking contestants will need to prepare at least three gallons of their chili off the college site and have it ready for judging, which will start at 10:30 a.m. that same morning.

The need for each contestant to prepare at least three gallons of chili will ensure there will be enough to serve the public. It will also allow consumers to be able to vote after the cook-off event for their choice of which chili deserves the”People’s Choice” general award as well as the overall “Best Presentation” award.

Besides the two general awards, voted on by the public, all the chili cook-off contestants will also be eligible to receive either First, Second and Third Place trophies for each of the three contestant categories allowed. These categories include contestants representing either local businesses or civic organizations or just themselves if they are competing as individuals.

All proceeds raised by the cookoff will go toward purchasing new medical transport vans for military veterans needing rides to medical appointments in either Shreveport or to the local veterans outpatient clinic in Texarkana.
