Season 3 of ‘Ride With Norman Reedus’ premieres on AMC

- By Sarah Passingham

Reedus rides again: A star of “The Walking Dead” hits the road again in the premiere of “Ride With Norman Reedus,” airing Sunday, Feb. 10, on AMC. Reedus has made a successful television project out of his genuine passion for motorcycles and adventure.

In a Q&A about the series, the longtime motorcycle enthusiast revealed to AMC that his first real job was in a California Harley shop, long before he was booking acting gigs. In each episode, Reedus meets up with one of his friends, and together they explore a new locale by motorcycle over the span of one week. They take in local biker culture and share in the unique experiences each destination has to offer.

For the first time since it premiered, this season features Reedus’s first repeat guest. In the show’s second season premiere, he and fellow “The Walking Dead” actor Jeffrey Dean Morgan traveled along Spain’s Mediterranean coast by motorcycle. They began their trip in Barcelona and were lucky enough to make it to Valencia in time to witness the annual Falles festival. The festival celebrates Saint Joseph and features bands marching through the city, elaborate, satirical paper mache puppet displays, and traditional costumes. Reedus and Morgan got a clear balcony view of the Mascletà, a massive pyrotechnic display held each afternoon of the fiveday festival. They also proved that “The Walking Dead” fans truly cover the globe as they were recognized even before they got their helmets off by excited fans in Valencia.

Morgan returns as a guest in this third season of the show, this time joining Reedus for a trip that includes what looks like a visit to Stonehenge in a preview of the upcoming season. Morgan is not the only “The Walking Dead” cast member to go out for a spin with Reedus. Steven Yeun, Melissa McBride, Austin Amelio and Andrew Lincoln all travel with Reedus to various destinations this season.

The network isn’t releasing any spoilers, but in a teaser trailer for the season, the Atlanta-based McBride appears to accompany Reedus on a trip somewhere in the United Kingdom, where they meet some noisy, furry and feathered friends. The pair are seen in a sheep pen (communicating with its occupants using bleats) and bonding with an owl and its handler. Amelio has been known to engage in some extreme sports on four wheels — before he was an actor, he was a sponsored skateboarder — and this season we get to see what he can do with two.

The cast of “The Walking Dead” have become almost like family while filming nine seasons of the zombie-apocalypse thriller together, and “Ride With Norman Reedus” really highlights these bonds. Upcoming travel guest Ian Anderson, Lincoln’s father-in-law, is a musician and longtime member of the band Jethro Tull, and he accompanies Reedus on a biking adventure as well. Lincoln himself is often the object of Reedus’s many on-set pranks, so there’s no telling what’s in store during their motorcycling adventure.

Also appearing in this season of “Ride With Norman Reedus” is shock-rocker Marilyn Manson. Manson is no stranger to the small-screen biker life, as he appeared in six episodes of the FX motorcycle gang drama “Sons of Anarchy” as Ron Tully, an Aryan Brotherhood leader. Manson told Billboard that he took the role to be part of an “amazing piece of television cinema” and to make his father proud. The role was perhaps also an audition for a motorcycle trip with Reedus. All we know about this trip so far is that the pair do some scarf shopping together, but Manson’s episode is sure to pack some fascinating adventure.

In the first two seasons of “Ride With Norman Reedus,” the actor took friends on road trips along California’s Pacific Coast Highway, the Appalachian Mountains, through Texas, New Orleans and the Florida Keys, across America’s Lowcountry and to Joshua Tree, Hawaii’s Big Island and New York City. One of the most notable trips was one he took in the show’s second season with musician Aimee Nash to New Mexico. The pair ziplined in costumes — Nash dressed as a gorilla and Reedus was in a chicken costume.

While this season marks Yeun’s first appearance in “Ride With Norman Reedus,” the pair of “The Walking Dead” co-stars have been seen riding their motorcycles together before. In 2016, the two were witness to a car accident while en route to their Peachtree City, Georgia, set. Yeun and Reedus stayed with the victims of the accident until paramedics made it to the scene, and luckily the injuries were only minor.

Don’t miss the Season 3 premiere of “Ride With Norman Reedus,” airing Sunday, Feb. 10, on AMC.
