Eagles, Falcons split doublehead­er

Texas A&M University­Texarkana and Friends University split wins in a double bill at George Dobson Field on Friday.

Starting pitcher Jared Davis gave up just three hits in 5 2-3 innings to lead the Eagles to the shutout in Game 1, 5-0.

Cal Pequeno led Texas A&MTexarkana’s offense with a 2-run single in the sixth.

The Eagles had one more hit than the Falcons in Game 2 but were edged, 3-2.

Cole Chambers drove in both of TAMU-T’s runs in Game 2.

Game 1

TAMU-T 5, Friends University 0

Davis threw 83 pitches, struck out three, walked two, and earned the win for the Eagles.

Pinch hitter Pequeno singled to left in the sixth as two runs scored to pad TAMU-T’s lead, 4-0. Cole Chambers smacked a double as another run scored to make it 5-0.

Chambers finished 2 for 4 with an RBI, Isaac D’Agostino was 2 for 2, and Tye Holliday went 2 for 2 for the Eagles.

Game 2

Friends University 3, TAMU-T 2

The Falcons did not allow a run in the final two frames to squeeze out the win.

Antonio Fernandez got things rolling for the Eagles in the fifth with a one-out single to left-center. Matt Barrett crushed a doubled to left and pinch runner PJ Thrower advanced to third.

Cole Chambers hit a 2-run single to right as Thrower and Barrett scored for Texas A&M-Texarkana.

Tye Holliday, Tim Frith, and Bryce Beck each had singles for the Eagles.

Starting TAMU-T pitcher Caleb Baker threw 4 2-3 innings, allowed three runs on three hits, struck out three, walked five and totaled 90 pitches.
