Panel seeks input on slogan for Sevier County

-

The University of Arkansas Cossatot and the Sevier County Economic Development Tourism Committee have launched a campaign asking Sevier County residents to come up with a new slogan for the county.

“The Sevier County Tourism Committee was formed as a result of (a) community planning process and has been working to identify tourism assets in our county,” Economic Development Director Lisa Taylor said.

“In fall 2018, our efforts were awarded the opportunity to participate in the CREATE Bridges (Celebrating Retail, Accommodations, Tourism, and Entertainment by Building Rural Innovations and Developing Growth Economies) Tourism Development Initiative. As our community members work to develop our tourism products (lodging, entertainment, retail, etc.), it has become evident that we need a vision for our future that includes a brand, or slogan, in order to market our region to potential tourists. The Sevier County Tourism Slogan Contest is expected to identify an appropriate brand,” she said.

Contestants must be a current resident of Sevier County, 13 years of age or older, and only one entry per resident is allowed.

“The committee believes this is a great opportunity for families to dream and be competitive. Each family member should complete an entry. They also encourage teachers, human resources departments, group leaders and presidents of clubs throughout the county to encourage participation through competition,” Taylor said.

“When developing your idea for a Sevier County Tourism Slogan, keep the following tips in mind: keep it short and simple; focus on what makes Sevier County different and appealing to tourists; make it timeless; make sure it stands alone, without additional explanation; consider a specific target audience; and most important, get input from your family and friends. Once you decide on your slogan, go to www.cccua.edu/ sevier to submit your entry no later than 11:59 p.m. on Thursday, March 14, 2019. Entries may be made in the English or Spanish version of the same form for entry in the same contest,” she said.

“The winner of the contest will receive a $500 cash prize, so everyone is encouraged to participate; lifelong residents and youth alike,” Taylor said.
