Chili cook-off, talent show Saturday

- By Neil Abeles

If you’re looking for a good cause and a good time this Saturday night, show up at the Doddridge, Ark, Museum around 5 p.m. to 5:30 p.m.

The museum is having its yearly fundraiser—a chili cook-off and talent show. The organizers say part one is really good and the other is pretty much a lot of fun

“We’ll have several different kinds of chili and real judges to taste them. That begins at 5 p.m. Then, we have this little stage in the corner for the band and talent show,” said Patsy Bricker Maddox, museum curator for the local Extension Homemaker Club.

“Anybody who has a talent or even anyone without a talent who wants to get up there and sing, tell a joke or just do their thing, that’s what we want them to do. It’s a lot of fun and is free. Everything is a donation that goes to help our museum pay its expenses through the year,” she said.

And don’t worry about the atmosphere. The party place is Doddridge’s community center and on its wall is a huge mural telling the history of the town in a colorful manner worth taking the time to study.

Here’s one additional reason for both coming to the Saturday night party and entering the chili cook-off:

“If you win, there’ll be a big prize. Maybe an embroidered pillowcase or something like that,” the museum director said with a smile.
