Bomb Scare
Police, media on the scene to serve the public
Well, it certainly wasn’t just another day at the office. Most have probably read about Monday’s bomb scare in Downtown Texarkana, when a mysterious package was found about 8:40 a.m. in shrubbery on the east side of the Bi-State Justice Building.
The police acted quickly to block streets, evacuate the BJB and recommend the same to people in surrounding buildings—including the Gazette offices across the street—while awaiting the arrival of the bomb squad from El Dorado.
By the time they arrived, the streets downtown were mostly clear save for police officers and journalists from the Gazette and local television stations.
A little after 1 p.m. it was all over. The package—which contained an unidentified cylindrical device with wires—had been removed and taken to a secure location for investigation.
It was all handled professionally. And the outcome shows it. We commend the local police and other emergency first responders on the scene.
Twin City residents were able to keep up-todate on what was happening thanks to the journalists who stayed on the job as well. Reporters and photographers who were at the scene, bringing you coverage online and onscreen.
No, not just another day at the office. But it was another day on the job. Keeping you informed.
