TASD to consider improvement bids at tonight’s meeting
Texarkana, Ark. School District’s Board of Directors will meet at 6 p.m. today to consider bids for curb appeal and materials related to a magnet grant.
The meeting will be held in the Administration Building, 3435 Jefferson Ave., Texarkana, Ark.
The board will consider a bid to paint the metal awning at College Hill Sixth Grade Academy. The work will be paid for through the $14.8 million Magnet Schools Assistance Program grant the district received in 2017 from the U.S. Department of Education to continue the science, technology, engineering and math thread from the elementary level to secondary.
Directors will also consider bids for materials and painting of the gymnasium at North Heights Junior High. Three bids were received for the work.
Also up for consideration is the purchase of 600 copies of “You Can Handle Them All,” a book and study guide from The Master Teacher, which is a single source provider of the materials. They will also be paid for by the magnet grant.
In other business, the board will consider school improvement plans for eight campuses. Each has created a plan, as required by federal Every Student Succeeds Act regulations. Once approved, the plans will be published on the district website.
Also included on the agenda is a $10,800 annual membership to the eProve suite of tools and professional services, which is part of the AdvancED Education network. The program, which is also part of the implementation of the magnet grant, provides assessment and customizable support sources for teachers and students. It will be paid for with funds from the magnet grant.
The board will also consider extending a contract with Shipp Outdoor Advertising for billboards promoting the Montage Project, which is the implementation of the magnet grant. The district already had six billboards and if the item is approved, two additional billboards would be added for a total of $2,500 per month.
The board will also hear an update from Clark Contractors on work for the new Arkansas Middle School being built north of I-30.
