Wren Autrey announces bid for circuit court judge

District Judge Wren Autrey is announcing his candidacy for Division 3 Circuit Judge for the 8th Judicial District South. The district serves Miller and Lafayette counties. Autrey currently serves as a state district judge for Miller and Lafayette counties. Now in his 15th year as judge, Autrey previously served 10 years as city prosecutor for Texarkana, Ark., served two years as a public defender for Miller County and was in private practice for 20 years specializi­ng in labor and employment law, real estate, probate and criminal law.

Autrey hopes to take the bench that is currently filled by Circuit Judge Kirk Johnson, who is retiring.

Autrey is currently a member of the Arkansas Administra­tive Office of the Courts committee on fines, fees and bail. He previously served eight years on the Arkansas Public Defender Commission and in various capacities for the District Judges Associatio­n. Autrey has been active in Boy Scouts, Teen Court, United Way, Volunteer Center and First United Methodist Church.

Autrey and his wife, Debbie Autrey, are lifelong residents of Miller County.

Autrey graduated from Arkansas High School in 1979, received his bachelor’s degree from Washington and Lee University in 1983 and his law degree from University of Arkansas in 1986.

“I want to thank the people of Miller and Lafayette Counties for allowing me to serve as their district judge,” Autrey said. “It is important to have an experience­d, qualified judge who will be fair, just and give equal treatment under the law as circuit judge.”
