Fans are still available for senior adults in need

Drive is ongoing

The Ark-Tex Council of Governments’ Area Agency on Aging is continuing to collect fans for senior adults.

The annual fan drive is held in memory of late employee Vinie Reed.

“It’s been going great. We have had about 200 donated and have 20 left. They have been a hot commodity,” said Lisa Reeve, manager of the Area Agency on Aging.

The fans will be donated to people 60 and older who need them.

Anyone interested in donating a new fan can drop it off at the ATCOG Building at 4808 Elizabeth St. in Texarkana, Texas.

Monetary donations will be spent on fans.

Many older people, especially ones on a fixed income, may struggle with the rising temperatures during the summer months. Some of them have air conditioning but don’t turn it on because of the cost, according to the Area Agency on Aging.

ATCOG’s hours are from 8 a.m. to noon and from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday.

For more information or to receive a fan, call 903-832-8636. The Salvation Army is also collecting fans to help the families it serves.

Seniors with low incomes are given first priority, said Salvation Army office manager Brenda Hogan.

Anyone interested in receiving a fan should call the office at 870774-2701 to make an appointment. They should also provide identification.

Anyone interested in donating a new or slightly used fan can drop it off at The Salvation Army.
