Presley shoots another 7-under to extend lead

Andrew Presley fired his second 7-underpar round Thursday in the All Pro Tour Texarkana Children’s Charities Open to take a commanding 5-strole lead through two rounds.

Presley, playing at Northridge Country Club for his second round, carded an eagle on No. 6 and birdied Nos. 3, 4, 5, 9, 14 and 16. He moved to 14-under 129 for the tournament to lead the field, cut down to the top 38 players heading into today’s third round.

Binny Lee remained atop the Women’s ATP event, which was played at Texarkana Country Club for the second round, with a 2-over-par 74. Lee is two shots ahead at 2-under 141.

Today’s third round and the championsh­ip round, played Saturday, will both be at TCC for the men and women.

Cory Churchman, who was tied for the lead with Presley after the first round, dropped to second in the standings with a 2-under 69

for a two-day 9-under 134. Churchman, also at Northridge for the second round, birdied Nos. 3, 6, 10 and 15 but also carded a pair of bogeys.

Toni Hakula is in third at 8-under 135 after his 2-under 69 Thursday, and Sulman Raza, playing at TCC, shot a 3-under 69 for a 7-under 136 to move into fourth place. Zach Bauchon shot even-par 72 at Texarkana for a 6-under 137, and Texarkana’s Sean Romero is in a 6-way tie for sixth (5-under 138) after he also shot even-par 72 at TCC.

Tied with Romero at 5-under for the tournament are Matthew Perrine (5-under 66), Blake Trimble (2-under 69), Brandon McIver (6-under 65), Curtis Reed (4-under 67) and Christophe­r Evans (even 72). Perrine, Trimble, McIver and Reed plays at Northridge for the second round, and Evans was at Texarkana Country Club.

Two other local players made the cut. Zack Fischer shot even-par 71 at NCC to remain 1-under (142) for the tournament and is tied for 24th, and Trumann Nugent turned in a 4-over 76 at TCC for a two-day even 143.

The 2019 APT tour money leader, Logan McCracken, missed the cut by three strokes. He shot a 6-under 65 at NCC in the second round after a dismal 81 Wednesday.

Elaine Wood climbed into second place in the Women’s All Pro Tour event with her 2-under 70 at Texarkana. Wood is even-par 143 entering the third round.

Mount Pleasant’s Sarah Brown carded an even-par 72 for third in the standings at 1-over 144, and Chirapat Jao-Javanil is fourth at 2-over 145 after her 2-over 74 in the second round.

Reece Feducia scored three birdies in a row on the Front 9 and finished 3-over 75 to be tied with Gabby Lemieux (2-over 74) for fifth at 3-over 146.

Texarkana’s Emma Edwards shot 1-over 73 and is tied with three other players at 4-over 147 through two rounds.

Also tied with Edwards are Alazne Urizar Zapata (3-over 75), Jessica Dreesbeimd­ieke (2-over 74) and Hannah Arnold (4-over 76).

There are 32 women remaining in the final tournament of the WAPT this season.
