Milam Street shooting suspect turns self in

-

A man turned himself in for his alleged involvement in a gunfight on Milam Street late Saturday, according to a Texarkana, Texas, Police Department Facebook post.

Joedacie Smith, 26, was identified as a suspect based on witness statements, and a felony warrant was issued for his arrest earlier in the week, the post states.

After turning himself in, he was arrested on a charge of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.

Smith is being held in the Bi-State Jail, with a bond set at $100,000.

Three shootings, resulting in non-life-threatening wounds, were reported late Saturday in the 14001500 block of Milam Street.

The shootings are believed to have been the continuation of an altercation that occurred earlier in the evening, TTPD spokesman Shawn Vaughn stated earlier in the week.

“Officers were dispatched to the area shortly after 11 Saturday night and found a 17-year-old man lying in the front yard of a residence in the 1500 block of Milam, suffering from a single gunshot wound to his leg. He was transported to CHRISTUS St. Michael Hospital by ambulance,” Vaughn wrote.

“Minutes later, Wadley Regional Medical Center reported that a second gunshot victim had arrived there seeking medical treatment. The 24-year-old man had been shot in both his leg and arm. Officers also learned on Sunday that a third victim involved in this incident had driven themselves to a medical facility in Hope, Arkansas for treatment,” according to Vaughn.

During the initial investigation, officers found bullet holes on the north side of a house in the 1400 block of Milam Street. One weapon and numerous shell casings were also recovered at the scene.
