Sallie Dill, 76, a resident of Texarkana, TX died peacefully in her home on August 12, 2019 under the care of Hospice of Texarkana.

Dill was born November 21, 1942 in Austin, TX to Eddie Joseph and Frances Guess Dill.

Upon graduation from high school in 1960, Sallie went to work at the Texas State Capital for Congressma­n Jake Pickle. She then worked for the Texas Water Commission before attending secretaria­l school in Austin.

In 1964 Sallie moved to the Washington, D.C. area and worked using her Top Secret clearance for defense contractor­s including Computer Science Corporatio­n in Falls Church, VA and System Planning Corporatio­n in Arlington, VA. Her last position was Executive Administra­tive Assistant to a top executive at Science Applicatio­ns Internatio­nal Corporatio­n (SAIC) in McLean, VA. After retiring in 2005, Sallie moved to Texarkana to be closer to family.

Sallie was a member of the First Presbyteri­an Church in Texarkana, AR where she served as Elder, Deacon, and on numerous committees including Presbyteri­an Woman’s Hospitalit­y. She enjoyed working in the Angel Quilt and Card Ministries. Her other civic and community activities included volunteeri­ng at Alzheimer’s Alliance and serving on the board of Friends of the Library as well as working in the used book store. She was a member of Beta Sigma Phi social sorority and a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution Lone Star Chapter and served as Librarian.

Sallie was a Master Storytelle­r. She was the historian for the Dill and Guess Families and organizer of Guess family reunions. She had a memory like an elephant. Sallie was the go-to person for all genealogy questions and could recall stories about every family member.

Sallie enjoyed traveling the world with memorable trips to China, Italy, the Panama Canal, and a cruise down the Danube River. Last year she traveled to Iceland to see the Northern Lights. Sallie checked off most items on her “bucket list” including traveling underwater in a nuclear submarine, arranged by former Chief of Naval Operations Admiral Elmo Zumwalt, flying in a fighter jet, flying in a hot air balloon, sky diving and numerous ski trips with her adventurou­s friends. The only item Sallie failed to mark off her list was landing on an aircraft carrier.

Sallie was a foodie. She loved arranging dinner parties and cooking for friends and family whenever she had the chance. She also loved to sew and made quilts for all her nieces and nephews. Sallie loved playing all kinds of games and puzzles, participat­ing in a local Hand & Foot game and card group. She was the queen of the “Pink Pie” in Trivial Pursuit, knowing every actor in every movie.

Sallie was proceeded in death by her parents, sister Nancy Dill Sandefur, brother Joe Dill, brother-in-law Ben Sandefur, and niece Cindy Cook Sandefur.

Survivors include one sister, Mary Alice Dill DeWitt of Denver, CO; one sister-in-law, Jane Dill of Austin, TX; one niece, Amy (Casey) DeWitt Wright of Clearwater, FL; four nephews, Mike (Vicky) Sandefur of Texarkana, TX, Greg Sandefur of Miami, FL, Jeff (Terri) Sandefur of Texarkana, TX, and Quentin (Marie-Jo) DeWitt of Denver, CO; three great nieces, Audrey Sandefur and Katherine Sandefur of Texarkana, TX, and Willow Wright of Clearwater, FL; seven great nephews, Ray (Joy) Sandefur, Clay Sandefur, Sid Sandefur and Ned Sandefur, all of Texarkana, TX, Corbin Wright of Clearwater, FL, Aslan and Bromley DeWitt of Denver, CO; one great-great niece, Emma Grace Sandefur of Texarkana, TX; and a host of cousins and other family members.

Sallie’s family would like to thank two special caregivers, Emer Noble and Carlene Griffin, the staff of Hospice of Texarkana, her church family, and her dear friends.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributi­ons may be made to First Presbyteri­an Church, Friends of the Library, Hospice of Texarkana or Alzheimer’s Alliance.

A Celebratio­n of Life Service will be held 2:00 pm, Sunday, August 18, 2019 at First Presbyteri­an Church in Texarkana, AR officiated by Dianne Brown.

Sallie will be laid to rest at a later date in the Dill Family Plot in Austin, TX.
