Cody Canada concert free at Scottie’s

- By Aaron Brand

TEXARKANA, Texas — In honor of the Scottie’s Grill five year anniversary, the ticket price for Friday night’s Cody Canada and The Departed concert has been dialed all the way down to free.

Anyone who purchased tickets before the venue changed the price will have a refund coming, explained Scottie’s manager Deja Presson. Giovannie & the Hired Guns will open. The show will still start around 8 p.m. with headliners on the big stage about an hour later.

“We will have the food truck down there, which will have a limited menu. Of course the restaurant will be open like normal with a full menu. We’ll have a couple open bars downstairs,” Presson said.

Bring IDs to get a wristband for alcohol purchase.

“We are celebrating our five-year anniversary. Our restaurant has been locally family-owned and operated,” Presson said, noting they’ve also had many top Red Dirt touring acts come through, such as Cody Johnson, Cody Jinks, Randy Rogers and Whiskey Myers. And Cody Canada, she pointed out, started it off for Red Dirt at Scottie’s on the big stage.

“It’s kind of fitting that we have him back to celebrate our five-year anniversary,” Presson said.

Scottie’s started out as a restaurant and then added its large stage. More traditional country acts like Neal McCoy have also played the venue. Stephanie Rice played a homecoming concert there.

In addition to the large shows, Scottie’s often hosts smaller, hometown acts on the patio during the weekends. Last year, Scottie’s celebrated a birthday with fireworks, so they needed a way to top that this year, the Scottie’s manager said. “We just kind of want to give everybody something to do. They can come and celebrate with us.”
