James Fred “Gator” Stanton passed away to meet his Lord on Saturday, September 14, 2019, in Little River Nursing Home. He was born in Hope, Arkansas, on December 12, 1941, and grew up in Saratoga, Arkansas. He grew up with the Church of Christ and was a Christian. He is preceded in death by his parents, Nash and Thelma Stanton; his brother, Nash Tipton “Tip” Stanton; his stepson, SFC Richard J. Henkes II; and a great-granddaugh­ter, Isolde Elise Romero.

He is survived by his wife, Chris Stanton; a son, Paul Mac Stanton; a daughter and sonin-law, Cindy Stephens and Jeff Stephens; two grandsons, Corbett Stephens and Carder Stephens; a stepdaught­er and her husband, Linda Bass and Allen Bass; a stepdaught­er, the Rev. Tamara Henkes; a stepgrandd­aughter, Cassidy Case; a stepgrandd­aughter, Isabel Henkes; and stepgreat-grandchild­ren, Guinevere Adelle Frederick and Achilles Nickolas Vallet.

Jim attended Ouachita College in Arkadelphi­a on a full scholarshi­p and later transferre­d to the University of the Ozarks. He worked for Reynolds Metals Company for 36 years, where he was transferre­d out of the country many times, his latest being Nigeria.

He met his wife, Chris, in 1987 when he transferre­d to Troutdale Oregon plant, and they married later that year.

He also leaves behind many special cousins, nieces, nephews and friends.

Visitation will be at Madden Funeral Home on Tuesday from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m.

The funeral service will be at Madden Funeral Home, Ashdown, AR, Wednesday at 10:00 a.m., and burial will be at Saratoga Cemetery after the service. David Formby will be officiatin­g.
