Max Donuts offers more than daily donut freshness

Liberty-Eylau business also offers lunch fare

When one drives up to Max Donuts on U.S. Highway 59 South, across from Liberty-Eylau’s Rock School, one sees a cheerful-looking establishment, painted bright red, with the Stars and Stripes flying high above the entrance. White letters along the red facade announce some of the fare available, which is a bit different from what one might expect from a donut shop.

“As customers came in, many began requesting lunchtime meal options,” said Kevin Sa, owner. “So we started making burgers, fried rice and other options. Now, they want dinner options, too. And as much as I’d like to, I get up at two in the morning to make the donuts, and it just isn’t practical at this time.”

As the name says, Max Donuts makes donuts and makes them front and central to their business. And their standards are high.

“We make them fresh and hot daily,” Sa said. “We never sell old donuts. That’s our

motto. I won’t do it.”

Max Donuts has been in the works since April, and though it intended to open earlier, one thing led to another, which pushed back its planned opening. But in the middle of August, the day came. The community response was enthusiastic.

“Customers have been excited and cheerful, giving us good ratings on places like Texarkana Cheers and Jeers,” he said. “Local figures like Texarkana, Texas, Mayor Bob Bruggeman comes here. Also, we’ve gotten shoutouts from DJ Godfather, on-air personality on Majic 93.3.”

Sa has been running businesses for a long time. He bought the Max Donuts name from another entrepreneur, and the original Max Donuts was in Wake Village. But he decided another location was needed.

“The previous space was rented and I wanted to own the property,” Sa said. “I considered Richmond Road, but I couldn’t find a location that fit what we needed. This area, the price was right and the traffic guarantees a steady flow of customers. They come and dine in as well as use our drivethrough.”
