James Henry Gauntt, 81, of Maud, Texas, left this world for his heavenly home on Thursday, October 10th, 2019, at a local hospital. James was born July 29th, 1938, in Darden, Texas.

He is the retired business owner of Crow Burlingame in Maud, Texas. He is also the former owner of Cindy’s Restaurant in Maud, Texas. He was a mason with the Maud Masonic Lodge and a member of the First Baptist Church of Maud, Texas. He was a former Maud volunteer fireman, councilman, and mayor pro tem.

He is preceded in death by his father and mother, Worth and Mildred Gauntt; one sister, Peggy Sue McCarty; and one son, James Randal (Randy) Gauntt.

He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Carol Hawkins Gauntt, of Maud, Texas; one daughter and son-in-law, Cindy and Mark Wheat of Maud, Texas; one son and daughter-in-law, Rodney and Cynthia Gauntt of Maud, Texas; granddaugh­ters Shawna Gauntt-Hicks and her husband, Jessie, of Texarkana, Texas; Hollyn Woodfork and her husband, Cameron, of Spokane, Washington; Krystle Sivley and her husband, Guy, of Arden, Arkansas; Kimberly Wheat of Maud, Texas; grandson, Michael Gauntt, of Portland, Oregon; great-granddaugh­ters Kaitlin Sivley of Arden, Arkansas; Scotlyn Woodfork of Spokane, Washington; Londyn Woodfork of Spokane, Washington; and Natalie Sivley of Arden, Arkansas; great-grandsons Mason Ueckert of Arden, Arkansas; Bradley Gauntt of Portland, Oregon; and Bentley Hicks of Texarkana, Texas; sisters Margaret Crabtree of Texarkana, Arkansas; Sarah Walters of Diana, Texas; Betty Stevens of Daingerfie­ld, Texas; one special niece, Rose Annette Gauntt, of Texarkana, Texas; a host of family and friends.

James will be remembered most for his sense of humor and his laugh. He loved trains, westerns, his dogs, especially Pepper and Millie, watching Gunsmoke, mowing the yard, chewing tobacco, fishing, camping, shooting the breeze with old men, his family, woodworkin­g, crushing cans, breakfast meal, working fill-in number puzzles, being outside, feeding squirrels, birds, and all the other neighborho­od animals, scenic drives, gardening, aggravatin­g people, but he loved getting hugs from women at church most of all.

Pallbearer­s will be Jake Aldridge, Steven Chase, Johnny Downs, Daniel Martin, Kelly Martin, and Roy Rogers.

Visitation will be prior to the service at 1:00 p.m. on October 14th, 2019, at the First Baptist Church of Maud, Texas. Funeral will follow at 2:00 p.m. with Bro. Chuck Carr and Bro. James Strain officiatin­g. Burial will be in Center Ridge Cemetery, Maud, Texas. Arrangemen­ts are under the direction of Chapelwood Funeral Home.

Family will be at the home of Shawna GaunttHick­s, 6 Heritage Boulevard, Texarkana, Texas.

Memorials may be made to the First Baptist Church of Maud, Texas.
