Bill was a local businessman in the Texarkana area for over 40 years and started a few business ventures before opening Tape Village along with his wife Virginia in 1970. This became one the leading Audio/Video retail stores in the Ark-La-Tex. In 2004, they decided that the industry had changed too much and it was time to retire.

After retirement, he wanted to dedicate his time and passion by becoming actively involved with the Randy Sam’s Outreach Shelter in Texarkana, TX. He served in almost all capacities from helping shuttle residents to a job, cooking and handing out meals to serving as a board member for the rest of his life. It warmed his heart to see people being helped who needed it and to help the shelter in any way he could. His deeds followed his favorite scripture from the Bible. Matthew 25:40 which states “Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me.”

Bill’s other passions spanned over several decades including active roles in the Texarkana Jaycees on the local and state levels. One of his proudest moments as a Jaycee was raising enough money to purchase a bloodmobile for the local blood bank. He also loved the outdoors and wetland conservation. As an avid duck hunter, he was a member of Yellow Creek Duck Club for 20 years and was actively involved with Ducks Unlimited for over 30 years serving as a Sponsor and a key figure in fundraising activities at the local and state level. He was also a member of the Wilbur Smith Rotary in Texarkana.

St. James Episcopal Church is located at 417 Olive Street Texarkana, TX 75501. A reception will follow after the service. To honor the memory of Bill, donations can be sent to either St. James Episcopal Church or Randy Sams’ Outreach Shelter (Randysams. org).
