Pirates get district win over Maud
MAUD, Texas — James Bowie broke into the win column in District 10-2A, Div. II, by knocking off rival Maud, 36-16, Friday night on the Cardinals’ home field.
The Pirates (2-6) are 1-2 in district while the Cardinals slip to 2-6, 0-3.
James Bowie took the lead for good with 6 seconds left in the first half when Duncan Hammonds scored on a 3-yard run. The 2-point conversion failed, leaving the Pirates up 22-16 at intermission.
The visitors added a pair of fourth-quarter touchdowns to put the game away. Ethan Fields scored on a 35-yard TD run and Gabe Brantley broke loose on a 27-yard scoring jaunt. Hammonds ran for the latter 2-point conversion a 20-point lead with 59 seconds left in the game.
Maud’s Tucker Sanders scored on a 6-yard run for the game’s first TD. Rayne Bailey ran for the 2-point conversion.
James Bowie tied it at 8-8 in the first quarter on Derrick Brown’s 1-yard plunge and the Pirates ran for conversion.
James Bowie went up 16-8 on Brown’s 1-yard run and Fields’ 2-point conversion, before the Cardinals answered with Bailey’s 2-yard run and conversion and a 16-all tie.
Maud turned the ball over three times while the Pirates did not have a turnover.

TIMPSON, Texas — Timpson defeated Kildare in its District 11-2A Div. I game Friday night, 35-0.
LaDavion Johnson led the Tigers with 16 rushes for 61 yards and teammate Nate Holloway added 19 yards on four totes.
Paul Pewitt 45, Elysian Fields 33
ELYSIAN FIELDS, Texas — Paul Pewitt running back Deiontray Hill rushed for 190 yards and three touchdowns to power the Brahmas to the District 11-3A, Div. II triumph over the Yellowjackets.
Pewitt remains unbeaten at 8-0 overall and 5-0 in district with two games remaining against Daingerfield and Queen City. Elysian Fields dips to 4-4, 2-3.
Hill carried the ball 22 times and scored on runs of 6, 5 and 6 yards, the last two coming in the decisive final period when the game was still in doubt.
The Yellowjackets led 12-7 at the end of the opening quarter before the Brahmas erupted for 22 second-quarter points and a 29-12 halftime advantage. The hosts, however, returned the favor 21-0 in the third quarter before Pewitt closed out the game with a 16-0 scoring spree.
Keiuntray Hawkins scored twice on runs of 7 and 41 yards and Cross Holder added a 7-yard scoring run.
The Brahmas finished with 351 yards total offense, all coming on the ground. Elysian Fields had 351 total yards, 302 coming on the ground.
