Williams Memorial church to hold grand opening celebration Sunday

- By Lindsey McMillan

TEXARKANA, Texas — Williams Memorial United Methodist Church will host a grand opening and celebration Sunday to celebrate the newly renovated church campus. The event includes a combined worship at 8:15 a.m. and 10:30 a.m. with breakfast in the pavilion at 9 a.m. with Bishop Scott Jones.

Work was done this summer on the Education Building, which houses the Welcome Center, the Williams School and additional education classes and grounds.

Thanks to the collective effort of many through the recent Rooted and Ready Campaign, extensive improvements were made to enhance the space for a variety of uses.

“Many people audibly ‘wowed’ when they first entered the space,” said the Rev. Dr. Brad Morgan, senior pastor.

Upon entering the building, new paint, flooring and stonework is visible. It is a welcoming place with room to socialize and gather in various areas throughout the foyer. Comfortable chairs, as well as additional tables are plentiful in the Welcome Center, along with a hospitality area and kitchen facilities attached.

There is ample storage for the variety of service projects that are ongoing at Williams. The revised floor plan allows for a complete update of building restrooms, Sunday School classrooms and meeting areas. Soft hues were used throughout the building with pops of color showcasing the children’s areas, as well as new furniture for study, creativity and fellowship in classrooms designed for all ages.

The Williams School has three new classrooms, increased security through entry and exit doors to the preschool, as well as a renovated music room, and a new and improved children’s play space. The school’s enrollment has steadily increased every year, church officials say, and these renovations will be able to keep up with that demand.

The renovation includes outdoor improvements as well. Construction of a new walking trail and sport playing fields is under way. Staff members said they are thrilled with how every

thing has turned out so far and look forward to the years ahead enjoying the facilities.

“Williams Memorial United Methodist Church has a history of serving our community through our church property,” Dr. Morgan said. “We are excited to expand our capacities to be in service to the community and continue to be a beautiful place that is a blessing to all.

“I am thrilled about the people of Williams’ investment in serving the families and children of our community,” he added.
