NELWYN SIMMONS

Nelwyn Joel Simmons died peacefully on May 14. She was 101.

Nelwyn was known for her sweet, positive, caretaking spirit who never met a stranger.

Although she grew up in the Kansas area, she lived in Texarkana, Texas after marrying David Belton Simmons Jr. In 1941. She and Belton were married for 58 years and had two children David and Lola Kay Simmons. She has 7 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren.

Nelwyn was a member of the First Baptist Church for over 70 years where she served in many capacities, notably serving shut ins with beautiful flowers and materials.

Nelwyn had a love of people that she demonstrated best in her beloved Candle lite Gift Shop. She not only had beautiful things to sell, she had lovely things to say. People always left feeling uplifted by her joyous spirit.

Nelwyn is survived by her children, David Simmons and his wife Linda, her daughter Lola Kay Nelson -Spay and her husband, Joe. Her Grandchildren are Kristi and Lisa Starr, Matthew and Heather Simmons, Trey and Andrea Nelson, Ryan and Brinda Nelson, Nikki Nelson, Michael Spay and Jeff Spay. Her great grandchildren are Kali Borden, Elliot Simmons, David Nelson, Michael Nelson, McKenna Nelson, Haven Hefta, Paris Martinez, Kayden Nelson, and Quinn Nelson. She also leaves beloved brothers in law, Brooks Simmons and Johnny Talkington and a host of beloved nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be held from 6:00 -7:30 pm, Sunday, November 17, 2019, at Texarkana Funeral Home and funeral services will be 1:00 pm, Monday, November 18, 2019 at First Baptist Church Atrium with interment following at Hillcrest Memorial Cemetery.
