MARGIE COUNTS

-

She was born August 14, 1923, to Grover and Letha West in Dougherty, Oklahoma. It was in Oklahoma that she met the love of her life, Isaac C. “Sam” Counts. World War II separated them, and Ileen worked in an airplane factory in Oklahoma City while Sam served in the Army. They married December 30, 1944, after he was injured in battle.

After a short time farming in Oklahoma, the couple moved to Queen City, where they raised their family.

Ileen was a longtime member of First Baptist Church of Queen City and until recently a faithful exerciser at New Attitudes gym. A self-described tomboy, Ileen was happiest outdoors digging in her flower beds and garden.

She is survived by her children, Phyllis Powell, Kathy Garard (Jay), and Johnny Counts. She was much loved “Mama Leen” to her grandchildren, Jason Powell (Carolotta), Tyson Powell (Deana), Jennifer Garard Milliken (Eric), and Will Garard (Shawntai), and to thirteen great-grandchildren and eight great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 65 years, Isaac C. Counts, and her sonin-law, Jerry Powell.

Graveside services will be 10:00 am, Tuesday, December 3, 2019 at Queen City Cemetery, with Bro. Ron Riemar officiating, under the direction of Hanner Funeral Service.
