Lady Eagles fall to Lady Saints
TEXARKANA, Texas — Texarkana A&M-Texarkana dug themselves a hole and Our Lady of the Lake pushed the dirt on top.
The Lady Eagles were routed by the Lady Saints, 118-47, Thursday night at the Patterson Student Center.
“We’re kinda thin at the point guard position,” TAMU-T head coach Kevin Dobbs said. “That’s one position that’s vital on the court and we have a few players there out for the season. We’ll get it together and get things going.”
Victoria Hill poured in the Eagles’ first bucket of the second half. Hill ended the contest with 13 points for the
Eagles and teammate Naomi Tekleab added 10 points.
The Eagles trailed the Saints, 93-34, at the end of the third period.
“The thing about games like this, our team gets a chance to see what it looks like and how a team that presses the whole game no matter the score looks like,” Dobbs said.
The Eagles (3-15, 0-6)) upped their defensive prowess to being the second period.
The Saints’ backside rebounding played a vital for their early edge. Our Lady of the Lake (145, 6-1) out-rebounded TAMU-T, 39-24, in the first half.
Jamia Miller led the Saints offensively in the first half with 16 points. Miller finished with the game with 19 points.
Kasey Salada added 15 points for OLLU in the first half.
The Eagles trailed the Saints, 59-16, at intermission.
Both teams matched each other’s pace from the opening tip.
The Saints shot a flurry of perimeter shots, gaining an 8-point advantage by the 5:14 mark in the first quarter.
The Saints forced consecutive Eagle turnovers and were able to convert transition baskets offensively.
The Saints ballooned their lead at the end of the first period, 38-11.
“I told our girls in the locker-room, the next three games are winnable,” Dobbs said. “We have 24 hours to get over this one and go back to the drawing board.”
TAMU-T plays Saturday at home against Hutson-Tillotson with opening tip set for 2 p.m.
