L-E trounces North Lamar
TEXARKANA, Texas — Liberty-Eylau controlled the tempo and the scoreboard.
The Leopards defeated North Lamar in a District 15-4A varsity girls game, 64-29, at the Rader Dome on Tuesday.
Liberty-Eylau entered the fourth quarter with a 10-point lead and refused to loosen its grip. The Leopards ballooned their lead to 18 points and cruised to the victory.
The Pantherettes came out of the locker rooms and went on a 6-0 run to open up the second half.
North Lamar cut the Leopards lead to five points with 5:50 left in the third period, 32-27.
Eliyah Howard drained a trey and slashed to the basket for a layup to give the Leopards a 10-point cushion, 39-29.
Howard finished the game with seven points, two steals and four rebounds for L-E.
Myah Hurd ended the game with nine points, five rebounds and two steals, while Kayla Crabtree had two steals and 11 points for the Leopards.
Daycoria Meadows paced Liberty-Eylau with 10 points in the first half. Meadows finished the game with a gamehigh 25 points for the Leopards with seven rebounds and a steal.
North Lamar shot a flurry of ill-advised shots in the second period, which gave way for the opportunity for the Leopards to go on runs.
L-E held a 10-point edge over the Pantherettes with 3:50 left before intermission, 24-14.
While holding a double-digit advantage, the Leopards were
able to explore the depth of their bench.
Ja’Niya Sanders provided a spark for the Leopards on both ends of the floor. Sanders added a steal, four rebounds and 11 points in the first half. Sanders finished the game with 15 points, two steals and eight rebounds for L-E.
The Leopards opened the game on a 7-0 run. The Pantherettes had no answer for L-E until midway through the first period.
Liberty-Eylau’s full-court pressure caused North Lamar turnovers, which the Leopards were able to create transition baskets with.
L-E held a slight edge over the Pantherettes at the end of the first period, 14-9.
Bre Adams led the Leopards with a game-high 12 points, and Liberty-Eylau defeated North Lamar in the junior varsity girls game, 25-24.
