Volunteers Needed

Did you know that April is National Volunteer Month? It is the perfect time of year to show appreciati­on to the volunteers in the community and to consider volunteeri­ng yourself. Check out these volunteers and how they make a difference in the lives of others.

Laura Spencer Texarkana, Texas

“I want to make a difference in my community to enhance the quality of life of people in

my community.” Volunteers for Volunteer in Public School for Texarkana School District, Dunbar Elementary, Theron Jones Granny Pack, Encompass Health Hospice,

Women of A&M, Naomi’s Circle at Macedonia Church, serves Thanksgivi­ng dinner at Randy Sams Shelter, hand sanitizer packs to Friendship Center, Rosehill Neighborho­od Improvemen­t Associatio­n, St. Michael’s Advisory Board, and a

local stroke support group.

Atlanta, Texas

“I am always looking for ways to volunteer and help make a difference within community. I love feeling like I am helping to make a difference in a positive way and help make our little town/county a little more cleaner, fun, and unique.” Volunteers for Cass County Relay for Life Committee, Cass County Championsh­ip Rodeo, Atlanta Hometown Christmas event, Adopt a Highway and Blues

“I feel strongly that kids in small communitie­s are often overlooked and they need a safe place to gather and read/play/do homework, and I wanted to be a part of something bigger than

myself.”

Volunteers at The DeKalb Activity Center where they are in the process of restoring an old building that was being used for storage into a kids library and

activity center.

Abby Lewis De Kalb, Texas

“Volunteeri­ng for the Special Olympics Fundraiser is my most favorite volunteer work that I do. The annual event is in January and I have been involved for seven years. All the athletes show up to play darts and the room is so full of love!! I leave every year in awe of the money raised and of the

relationsh­ips built.”

at Salvation Army, Girl Scouts of America, VIPS board for TISD, and

Bowie County Special Olympics.
