Five more Bowie coronaviru­s cases

PPE coming from stockpile

TEXARKANA, Texas — Local officials announced five more coronaviru­s cases Tuesday, bringing the Bowie County, Texas, count to 32.

The regional emergency Joint Operations Center announced the new tally along with one new case in Cass County, Texas, for a total of five there.

Five of the Bowie County patients are hospitaliz­ed and five others have recovered, no longer showing symptoms. Two of the Cass County patients have recovered.

The Bowie County cases are evenly split between men and women. One patient is age 20-29 range, eight age 30-39, seven age 40-49, seven age 50-59, four age 60-69 and five age 70-79.

No other informatio­n about the patients was made public.

A 70-year-old Bowie County woman who tested positive for the virus died March 28 in Wadley Regional Medical Center.

Cass County asks individual­s who have tested positive, or their healthcare providers, to report positive cases to the Emergency Management Coordinato­r at 903-796-7973.

The JOC also announced that Bowie County has received an allocation of personal protective equipment — such as face masks and shields, gloves and gowns — from the Strategic National Stockpile.

“A team will be deployed to pick up the allocation from a distributi­on center in Tyler and the PPE will be distribute­d to first responders and healthcare workers as needed locally,” a news release stated.

Drive-up testing for the coronaviru­s will be available 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Wednesday at the former De Queen Medical Center, 1306 W. Collin Raye Drive in De Queen, Arkansas.

A free COVID-19 drive-through clinic hosted by UAMS will take place 10 a.m to 2 p.m. Thursday at Trinity Baptist Church, 3115 Trinity Blvd. in Texarkana, Arkansas.
