Samuel Wayne Jarvis, known to friends as “Wayne”, age 77, departed this life April 9, 2020, surrounded by the love of his family.

He was born March 31,1943 to Samuel Milton Jarvis and Ella Creighton Jarvis in Mobile, Alabama. He attended the University of Southern Mississipp­i where he obtained a Bachelor of Science in Chemistry degree. He spent the majority of his career at Internatio­nal Paper, where he retired after 37 years of valued service as the Pulp Mill Superinten­dent.

After retirement, he took delight in spending time at the family lake house fishing and serving as a Sunday School teacher at Millwood Baptist Church.

He enjoyed working in his yard. He was always an avid reader and looked forward to working his daily crossword puzzles. Wayne served the city of Texarkana many years as a coach for Dixie Youth baseball and as a Chaplain at Wadley Regional Medical Center. He was an active member of Crossview Baptist Church.

Wayne is preceded in death by his son, Samuel Warren “Snoopy” Jarvis.

He is survived by his loving wife and best friend of 30 years, Shirley Jarvis of Texarkana, Tx , and brothers, Nelson , and Vaun (Carol) of Mobile, Alabama; his children, Mark White of North Richland Hills, Tx, Dave (Dana) of Picayune Ms, Catheleen Hargrave (Steve) of Texarkana, Tx, John Jarvis, Omaha, Tx, Pam Hamilton (Kevin), Texarkana, Tx, Gayle Howell (Brad),Tyler, Tx, Jill White, Texarkana, Tx, his 26 grandchild­ren and 15 great-grandchild­ren.

Our family would like to express tremendous gratitude to all his valued doctors and nurses for their excellent and loving care.

Due to the current health care crisis, there will be no public visitation or funeral services at this time. Arrangemen­ts are being made through Chapelwood Funeral Home.
