Myron “Mike” David Murphy, of De Kalb, Texas, passed away Thursday, April 23, 2020. He was 82.

Mike was born October 10 1937, in Deepwater, Missouri, to Cecil Eugene and Zella Mae Smith Murphy. On July 5, 1964, he married Joy M. Dugger in Adrian, Missouri. He was a retired Minister of Music and Youth, having served for over 25 years at various churches in Missouri and Texas, including Highland Park Baptist Church in Texarkana, Texas. Mike loved the outdoors where he spent time in his flower beds, as well as raising and showing Dalmatians and American Saddlebred horses and tending to his cattle. Mike also served his country in the Missouri National Guard. His greatest love was for the Lord, then his family, and especially his grandchild­ren.

He was preceded in by his parents and one Donna Murphy.

He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Joy Murphy of De Kalb, Texas; one daughter and son-in-law, Michele and Harold Smith of New Boston, Texas; one son and daughter-in-law, David and Tina Murphy of De Kalb, Texas; five grandchild­ren, Carter Smith of New Boston, Texas, Hope, Emily, Hayes, and Ella Murphy of De Kalb, Texas; two sisters, Mary Lou Slaybaugh of Clinton, Missouri and Lillie Douglas of WinstonSal­em, North Carolina; one brother, Ronnie Murphy and his wife, Pauline of St. Joseph, Missouri; and numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Private family graveside services will be under the direction of Bates Family Funeral Home in De Kalb, Texas.
