East Texas Giving Day raises almost $295,000 for nonprofits

TEXARKANA, Texas — More than 500 donations raised almost $295,000 for 19 local nonprofits during East Texas Giving Day on Tuesday.

Organized by the Tyler-based East Texas Communitie­s Foundation, the event aimed to make donating to the charities of one’s choice easy through a one-stop website. Donors chose one or more participat­ing nonprofits or a general community fund that will be distribute­d to them all. Donors could also filter nonprofits for extra assistance because of the coronaviru­s pandemic.

Overall, East Texas Giving Day raised more than $2.15 million for numerous organizati­ons in East Texas.

Many participat­ing Texarkana organizati­ons were able to increase the money they raised through matching grants.

The Texas A&M University-Texarkana Endowed Scholarshi­p Fund raised the most money, $94,835, among participat­ing Texarkana organizati­ons, according to the event’s website.

The Texarkana College Foundation was next with $48,110, followed by the Texarkana Symphony Orchestra at $37,025.
