Coronaviru­s cases top one million across U.S.

The number of coronaviru­s cases counted in the U.S. exceeded 1 million for the first time Wednesday, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention reported.

The CDC reported a total of 1,005,147 U.S. cases including 57,505 deaths related to COVID-19, the disease caused by the virus. The numbers represent increases of 23,901 and 2,247, respective­ly, from Tuesday to Wednesday.

Case counts in the Texarkana region showed little day-to-day change for the second consecutiv­e day.

Bowie County, Texas’ count increased by one, from 94 to 95, according to the Joint Operations Center establishe­d to respond to the pandemic in Bowie County and Cass County, Texas.

Fifty Bowie County patients have recovered and no longer require treatment. Eight Bowie County patients have died of the virus.

Cass County held at 16 cases, and eight of those patients have recovered, according to the JOC. Other Northeast Texas counties’ counts remained the same, as well, according to state health department data. Titus County held at 15, Morris County at five and Red River County at one.

Miller County, Arkansas, remained at 34 cases, according to the county Office of Emergency Management’s latest announceme­nt. The OEM releases case counts each Tuesday and Thursday.

Elsewhere in Southwest Arkansas, Hempstead

County’s tally increased by one, from five to six, according to state health department data. Howard County held at 13 cases, Sevier County at 11, Lafayette County at seven, Pike County at three, Nevada County at one and Little River County at zero.

In Northwest Louisiana, Caddo Parish’s count rose by 28, from 1,497 to 1,525, according to the state. Bossier Parish added eight cases to reach 285.

Statewide, Louisiana reported 27,660 cases with 1,802 deaths. Texas reported 27,504 cases with 732 deaths, and Arkansas reported 3,137 cases with 57 deaths.
