LEONZEL ODELL SHAVERS, SR.

Leonzel Odell Shavers, Sr., of DeKalb, Texas, passed away Saturday, May 2, 2020 at a Texarkana, Texas hospital. He was 64. Leonzel was born March 8, 1956, in DeKalb, Texas to Lorenzo Bernard and Clarice Arbell Baker Shavers. He was a retired Heavy Equipment Operator for Red River Army Depot and was a veteran of the United States Marine Corps. Leonzel was a member of Mount Pisgah Baptist Church. He enjoyed fishing, gardening and ranching and held his Private Aviation License.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Jimmy Shavers; and one sister, Hazel Ervin.

He is survived by his wife, Charlotte Betts Shavers of DeKalb, Texas; one son and daughter-in-law, Lee Shavers, Jr. and Sara Shavers of New Boston, Texas; two daughters, Helen Shavers and Jessica Shavers, both of DeKalb, Texas; three brothers and sisters-in-law, Stanley and JoAnne Shavers, Lorenzo and Denease Shavers, and Theodore and Carmen Shavers, all of DeKalb, Texas; one sister and brother-in-law, Dongloria and Edward Moss of DeKalb, Texas; four grandchildren, Aislinn and Ashtonn Lantrip, Annsleigh Shavers, and Caiden Andrade; one aunt, Mattie Johnson of Nashville, Tennessee; and numerous cousins, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

A memorial service will be held at a later date. Cremation will be carried out under the direction of Bates Family Funeral Home in DeKalb, Texas.
