Prevention

TO THE EDITOR:

To prevent the spread of the COVID-19 virus we have been instructed to wash our hands thoroughly and often, wear a mask in public, keep social distancing, and gather in groups no larger than ten people.

Noticeably absent are instructions on how to strengthen one’s immune system for the body to fight disease. Why not encourage these simple things to promote health:

1. Drink clean water throughout the day.

2. Eat fresh fruits and vegetables, preferably organically grown for the full range of trace minerals.

3. Avoid sugar, high fructose corn sweeteners, and all artificial sweeteners.

4. Avoid soft drinks, all carbonated drinks, drugs and tobacco.

5. Eat moderately and eat whole foods for daily elimination of waste.

6. Exercise 15 to 30 minutes daily.

7. Go outside, breath fresh air, and get a moderate amount of sunshine.

8. Get sufficient rest.

9. Fear, resentment, anger, and guilt weaken the immune system. Seek peace with God, reconciliation with family and neighbors.

10. Find a social support group such as a church.

My credentials? None, except that I am 85 years old, usually run 10 miles a week, preach twice on Sunday, which I have not missed because of sickness for sixty years. God has been good to me. He bought me with a price (1 Cor. 6:20). As long as I am alive I want to take care of this body which belongs to Him. If more people would follow these suggestions, their investments in the pharmaceutical companies may decline and their doctor may have more time to go fishing, or plant a garden. It seems to me that would be a good thing. Robert W. Hill Hooks, Texas
