Second Stimulus?

Should Americans get more money from government?

-

Although some are still waiting, it’s been a few weeks since most Americans with direct deposit received their COVID-19 stimulus checks.

With the crisis ongoing, there is talk of a second stimulus payment, perhaps even a series of monthly payments for a limited time.

Supporters say Americans need more relief. Opponents worry about the cost and creating dependence on government.

We want to know what you think. Should the federal government send a second stimulus check to Americans or not?

Send your response (50 words maximum) to opinion@texarkanagazette.com by Wednesday, May 13. You can also mail your response to the Texarkana Gazette Friday Poll, at P.O. We will print as many responses as we can in next Friday’s paper.

Last Week: Too Soon?

Last week’s question was about Texas (and soon Arkansas) allowing restaurants and other public places to reopen under limited conditions. Is it too early to begin opening restaurants, retail stores and other public gathering places? Or is it time to start reopening the economy?

Open it up, if they haven’t had it or caught it from one of the grocery stores or Lowe’s by now i say open it all up. Its been here for 5 months anyway.

Open up 100%

Open everything.

Start reopening. Let’s not make the cure worse than the disease. The spread of this virus, like the flu and common cold, will eventually reach everybody. Yeah, it’s 6 times more deadly than the flu. A vaccine may or may not be forthcoming to aid in herd immunity. Social distancing, masks, and frequent hand disinfecting should be maintained to slow the spread and not overwhelm medical facilities.

Open it up. Give into all the people that feel like they are being imprisoned in their homes. Then watch, another wave will come sooner rather than later. What folks don’t understand all the closings were being done to save lives. Now more lives will no doubt be lost and the virus will spread!

Open everything 100%. It should have never been closed in the first place.

Curve has been flattened, hospitals are not being overrun and the virus isn’t going anywhere. Common sense says open up. Those at high risk should live cautiously. The time for manufacturing consent for lockdowns is over. Public opinion has swayed and fear of the virus is declining rapidly.

Too soon. I’ll check back on this post in two weeks.

Not too soon.

Too soon.

Let’s get back to life and living! Open everything, 100% capacity and let’s get back to the American way of life.

Open it back up, if you’re not comfortable with it; stay home. Order online.

Way too early.

Open everything. Never should have been closed in the first place. Stop the tyranny and open up. If the hospitals start to get overwhelmed then shut down again. Otherwise as long as everyone follows guidelines all should be good. Just my thoughts on it.

Open. Those who are in an at risk category can judge for themselves if they want to mill about. Also, anyone can continue to wear masks if they feel at risk.

I say open up and give people the right to decide for themselves. We have got to get the economy back going or we really will be in a fix.

It’s too soon for us. We will wait and see how things go for awhile. Our numbers are still climbing. Not too soon.

Open up or it’s the Great Depression #2 here we come.

Open things up, the media is inflating the number to scare people, you can’t believe anything they publish so let us get back to our lives.

Those who think the government should keep things closed please show me a law that trumps our founding documents which state our rights come from our Creator. One of those rights is to peaceably assemble. Please use reason, not emotion.

History repeats itself when people refuse to educate themselves.

The reason there will be a possible 2nd wave is because staying in your own little cocoon will make your immune system low, therefor you will catch everything that even thinks its a virus. We are the land of the free and home of the brave!

We need sun light on our face.
