Bowie County 4-H awards scholarships to 7 area graduates
NEW BOSTON, Texas — Bowie County’s 4-H Support Foundation has awarded scholarships to seven of its public school graduating seniors.
The foundation itself, awarded $2,000 each, to Ethan Lum of Simms, Texas, and Caleb Corbin of Hooks, Texas.
Ethan, who spent 10 years in 4-H, focused much of his time on natural resource projects. He plans to attend Arkansas Tech University, where he will study fisheries and wildlife conservation. As for Caleb, he plans to attend Saint Louis University, where he will study biology as a pre-med major.
Through the Support Foundation, the county’s 4-H Advisory Board awarded $500 scholarships to three other recent high school graduates. They include Scarlett Fannin of DeKalb, Texas; and Mary Nan Fincher and Parker Thomas, both of Texarkana, Texas.
Scarlett focused her 10 years in 4-H on shooting sports and photography projects. She plans to attend North Texas Community College in Mount Pleasant. There she plans to study agriculture business and join the college’s rodeo team.
Mary Nan, who spent six years in 4-H and focused her time on shooting sports and photography projects, plans to attend the University of Texas-Tyler and major in biology as a pre-med student.
As for Parker, who also focused his time in 4-H on shooting sports projects, plans to attend the University of Arkansas- Fayetteville, majoring in mechanical engineering.
Finally, the county’s 4-H Livestock Booster Club through the foundation, awarded $500 scholarships each to Justice Dalby and Dylan Hanna, both of DeKalb.
Justice, who served as a heifer show team member in 4-H for eight years, plans to attend Texarkana College, where she is looking at studying business and finance. Dylan is a 4-H heifer show team member and focused on shooting sports projects. She is planning to attend Texas A&M UniversityCommerce to pursue a degree in wildlife conservation and eventually become a game warden.
