TEXARKANA, Texas — Texarkana’s local Cinemark movie theater will not reopen today because Cinemark has changed plans for the next stage of its phased reopening.

Texarkana’s reopening date has not yet been announced.

“We will continue the phased reopening of our theatres on July 24, with more openings to follow as new releases become available. We can’t wait welcome you back to the shared, immersive experience of the big screen. Check back soon to find out when your theatre is opening,” the company stated at its website.

The company announced there that they “modestly shifted” the schedule for its reopenings based on movie releases and local ordinances. The Plano, Texas-based Cinemark announced the changes Tuesday.

Previously, Cinemark theaters were set to open in Texarkana and elsewhere starting this Friday and again on July 17, according to a mid-June Gazette article. Five theaters in the Dallas area and one in Orlando, Florida, have reopened.

In a news release, the company stated, “Cinemark theatres will open showcasing some of Hollywood’s favorite classic films beginning Friday, July 24, with additional theatres reopening in subsequent weeks. All theatres will reopen with elevated cleaning and safety standards, and moviegoers should visit www.cinemark.com for the most updated information.”

New releases planned for Cinemark movie theaters include “Unhinged” on July 31, “The Broken Hearts Gallery” on Aug. 7, “Tenet” on Aug. 12, “Mulan” on Aug. 21, “Bill & Ted Face the Music” on Aug. 28 and “A Quiet Place Part II” on Sept. 4.

Mark Zoradi, Cinemark’s

CEO, said, “Our multi-phased reopening plan was thoughtfully designed with multiple contingencies in place that enable us to efficiently adapt to today’s ever-changing environment. We continue to pay close attention to status of the virus, local mandates and availability of new content while prioritizing the health and safety of our guests, employees and communities.”

Cinemark now touts its enhanced measures for cleaning and safety at the theater, which are detailed at the company website and include encouraging patrons to buy tickets online and requiring that masks be worn in theaters, only to be removed for eating and drinking in the theater auditorium. Previously,

Cinemark had suggested masks be worn.

Other measures include the following: sanitizing concessions, high-touch areas and restrooms every half hour; sanitizing theater seats prior to each screening; staffing a chief cleaning and safety monitor; providing seat wipes and hand sanitizer for moviegoers; staggering show times and reducing theater capacity; promoting six-foot social distancing; holding worker wellness checks; and requiring workers to wear masks and gloves.

Cinemark and its various brands operate 555 movie theaters with 6,145 screens in 41 states. It also operates in 15 countries across South and Central America.
