Economic Outlook?

Are you confident about the near future?

-

The U.S. Department of Labor said Thursday that the nation added 4.8 million jobs in June, much better than the expected 2.9 million.

The gain pushed the national unemployment rate down to 11.1%

President Donald Trump celebrated the news. “Today’s announcement proves that our economy is roaring back. It’s coming back extremely strong,” he told reporters at the White House.

Wall Street rallied on the news as well, sending stock indexes higher.

But some economists aren’t so sure the turnaround is here. Especially when most government stimulus programs are ending within a few weeks and the COVID-19 pandemic still gaining steam. They warn the worst for the economy may be yet to come.

We want to know what you think. Are you feeling more confident about the state of the economy? Or do you think things will get worse before any true turnaround?

Last Week: Alcohol to go?

Last week’s question was about making the temporary law permanent allowing Texas restaurant to sell beer, wine and mixed drinks to take home along with food. Do you support permanently allowing restaurants to sell alcohol to go? Or are you against the idea?

Yes, it is good for businesses and great for customers! — J.F., Texarkana, Texas

Yes, why not. Although, I wouldn’t buy alcohol with take out since it probably cost more and cheaper to have your choice of alcohol beverage already at home. Great idea to permanently allow restaurants to sell drinks and maybe supply a face mask with each order! — R.K., Texarkana, Texas

■ Yes let them. Will bring more to Texarkana. Awesome.

■ If you are responsible then cool. ■ No difference then any other place you can buy it.

■ I haven’t heard or read about a surge in drunk driving deaths or accidents bc of it so yeah…keep it.

■ I would like to see both counties go dry. Alcohol isn’t an essential.

■ Yes ma’am, lets do it! One step closer to drive-thru daiquiri shops.

■ It’s just like saying ok to drive and drink … that’s just crazy …

■ No. Invitation to drink and drive. Besides there is a open container law against this. People here can’t drive sober why would you want to give them a excuse?

■ Serve it!

■ Yes please.

■ Totally support!
