TEXARKANA, Ark. — The 1894 Market Trade Days returns for its second Saturday of the season this weekend with vendors inside and outside at the 1894 City Market and 1894 Gallery downtown.

From 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., vendors selling a variety of top-quality handmade wares will present their work. Georgia Hubnik, who owns the gallery there, said there is now permanent booth space inside for artists in addition to the outdoor space.

“We have vendors, and also what’s exciting is we have an extension of the gallery now. We have permanent vendor spaces that we hope will be an extra draw for our Trade Days because there will be permanent artists and craftsmen in the booths,” Hubnik said. “Hopefully when the world gets normal again it will be a tourist attraction also to have the

spaces on the other side.”

Jewelry, clothing, baked goods, art, candles and scents will be on hand — “kind of a variety of different vendors,” Hubnik said.

Things have been a bit slow with people being cautious, the art gallery owner says. The Trade Days returned last month after a hiatus. Vendors also set up on the dock and in front of the building, in addition to inside. They’d like to fill the inside with permanent vendors.

“We’re going to stick in there and keep going, and everything’s going to be OK,” Hubnik said.

Up ahead for the gallery is the Danny Helms art show “Led by the Spirit” that opens Aug. 1.

“We are very excited,” the gallery owner said, adding, “It’s a Bible series, illustrations of the Old Testament — 39 different pieces of art. He’s going to do audio tours, private tours.”

That exhibit will run through September.

Another thing in the works is an

October exhibit with an artist who’s illustrated a few illustrious country and western singers, such as Waylon Jennings, Willie Nelson and Johnny Cash.

“We’re going to get a band and have a street dance,” Hubnik. “We want to do some things that’s kind of open. People can still come out. We just want everybody to know that we’re still in there. We’re focused and we want to be a big part of downtown.”

Hubnik said the vendors encourage social distancing, wearing masks and using hand sanitizer at the Trade Days.
