City Council to consider renaming part of street
TEXARKANA, Texas — During a regular meeting Monday, the City Council will consider renaming a street at the request of a local business owner.
Patrick Hill, owner of Georgia Southern Fried Chicken, paid a $750 application fee to request renaming a segment of Alba Street as Savannah Hill Drive after his grandmother, whose recipes will be used at the business’ flagship restaurant there. The street would be renamed between Oaklawn Drive and New Boston Road, and Hill would be responsible for the cost of changing the street’s signage.
In his request, Hill said the local restaurant will employ 39 people and he plans to expand the franchise to at least 20 states over the next decade. He expects the restaurant to open by February 2021.
The Council will conduct a public hearing and vote on the measure.
In other business, the Council will consider a lengthy consent agenda that includes:
n amending the budget to account for almost $427,000 in coronavirus pandemic relief funds;
n amending the budget to account for a donation of more than $82,000 from TEXAR Federal Credit Union for the purchase of a mobile sound stage; and
n authorizing the Nov. 3 election of council members from Ward 3 and Ward 5.
The Council votes on consent agenda items together, without discussion.
The Council will also hear a number of first briefings on zoning and permitting matters.
Because of coronavirus concerns, the meeting will be conducted using the Zoom online meeting app. Members of the public who wish to participate in the public hearing must register by noon Monday. Comments for the meeting’s open forum must be submitted in writing by noon Monday to j.evans@txkusa.org.
The meeting is scheduled for 6 p.m. Monday. For more information, visit the city website at ci.texarkana.tx.us or call the city secretary’s office at 903-798-3930.
