Gay Shumake of De Kalb, Texas passed away Monday, July 13, 2020 at a Texarkana, Texas hospital. He was 88.

G a y was born November 27, 1931 in De Kalb, Texas to William Pen and Bessie Mae Proctor Shumake. He was a retired Ammo Manufactur­ing Inspector for Lone Star Army Ammunition Plant. Gay was a member of Pinkham Memorial Missionary Baptist Church in De Kalb, Texas where he served as a deacon and song leader for 45 years.

He is preceded in death by his parents; his wife Ruby Pauline Shumake; and one grandson, Daniel Wayne Granbery.

He is survived by one daughter, Annette Kinney of De Kalb, Texas; two sons and one daughter-in-law, Benny Shumake of De Kalb, Texas and Jacky and Kelly Shumake of De Kalb, Teas; four brothers and three sisters-in-law, Ray and Linda Shumake of De Kalb, Texas, Boyd Wayne and Judy Shumake of Texarkana, Arkansas, Max Shumake of De Kalb, Texas, and David and Nancy Shumake of De Kalb, Texas; one sister, Shirley Shumake of De Kalb, Texas; six grandchild­ren, Alicia Shumake, Nicole Runnels, James “Bo” Shumake, Ashlee Brush, Holly Shumake, and Kerry Shumake; eleven great grandchild­ren; and numerous other relatives and friends.

Graveside services will be 10:00 A.M. Friday, July 17, 2020 at New Hope Cemetery in De Kalb, Texas with Bro. Rod Jackson and Monte Madsen officiatin­g.

Mr. Shumake will lie in state Thursday, July 16, 2020 at Bates Family Funeral Home in De Kalb, Texas.
