Home or Campus?

Will you be sending your children back to school for new term?

-

With the shutdown of school campuses because of the COVID-19 outbreak, many parents turned to homeschooling as an alternative.

Now that schools will be offering a number of options for the coming school year, we were wondering how many parents will choose to continue homeschooling instead.

Did you start homeschooling because of the virus outbreak? If so, do you plan to continue homeschooling when the school year opens or send your children back to public or private school?

Send your response (50 words maximum) to opinion@texarkanagazette.com by Wednesday, July 22. You can also mail your response to the Texarkana Gazette Friday Poll, at P.O. Box 621, Texarkana, TX 75504 or drop it off at our office, 101 E. Broad St., Texarkana, Ark. Be sure to include your name, address and phone number. We will print as many responses as we can in next Friday’s paper.

Last Week: Voting Age?

Last week’s question was about the suggestion the voting age be lowered to 16. Should the voting age be lowered to 16? Or should it stay at 18?

Consider what ensued after 18-year-olds were enfranchised! Teens will be able to have autonomy over their own bodies, move away from abusive parents, have religious freedom, keep Twitter accounts although their parents disapprove of their politics, and choose vaccination instead of dying at 17 because their parents said no. — J.L., El Sobrante, California

There is no way a 16 year old should vote. Even at 18, most do not have enough life experience to make an informed decision on who to vote for. — C.H., Texarkana, Texas

16 year olds should not vote. This is an obvious power grab by Pelosi and the Democrats. The same people who want 16 year olds to vote want Washington DC to be the 51st state, want to enlarge and stack the Supreme Court with liberal justices, eliminate the Electoral College and favor voting by illegal aliens. If the Democrats ever control the House of Representatives, the Senate, and the Presidency we are in deep trouble. For them it is all about power and rigging the system so they always have control. — L.O., Texarkana, Texas

Of course the Democrats are pushing for this. They would include any, (even younger) immature segments of society. Because they would add to the numbers of the most uninformed, prone to further indoctrination in support of the Democrat’s liberal-left agendas. They are like the old Soviet Communists — whatever it takes to further their ungodly goals. — D.H.M., Texarkana, Arkansas

■ Back to 21, unless active military.

■ 18 … barely, only because they are eligible for military service.

■ 18 is good. 16 too young. Let them be children a little longer. They will have plenty of time later to deal with this world’s good and bad.

■ 18 anybody that would want a 16yr to VOTE obviously don’t have one …

■ Kids are not mature enough to vote or serve in the military at 18.

■ 18 is perfect what next driving at 12 kids needs to figure life out not on politics .study, get a job,get married , have few kids, get in debt, get old, die go to heaven or hell depending on your behaviors in life.

■ If you are able to work and pay taxes, your vote should count.

■ Hell no it shouldn’t be lowered! 18 is low enough! You can fight and die for your country at 18, that should be a no brainer!

■ I think voting at 16 could be a novel idea but does legal adult age have to be lowered too and you register for selective services then?

■ No because people that young, much less 18, don’t pay a attention to politics enough to make an informed decision.

■ If you are paying taxes, you should be able to vote. No taxation without representation.

■ Another stupid social experiment.

■ 21. If you can’t trust a 20 year old to make an informed decision about having a beer or a cigarette then you can’t trust them to make an informed decision about electing an official into office.

■ If your dad, mom, or the government is providing your food, clothes, and shelter you should not be allowed to vote. Whether 16 or 36 if you can’t or won’t take care of yourself you shouldn’t be allow to make grown up decisions.

■ In Bible times men weren’t considered mature until they were 30. We should be raising the age, not lowering it.
