HOPE, Ark. — The President William Jefferson Clinton Birthplace Home National Historic Site will host an online camp for youth to discover the world’s wonders right here in Arkansas.

This year’s Jr. Ranger Summer Explorer Camp will be held on a virtual platform July 27-31.

Twenty students between the ages of 10 and 13 can register. They will enjoy knowledge shared by the state’s park rangers and field experts as they discuss historic and natural sites in Arkansas. The first students to submit a completed registration form, which is available at the park website, can participate.

Christian Davis serves as the supervisor and park ranger at the Clinton

Birthplace Home. This is a chance for youth to learn more about the state where they live.

“This is an annual program that we present to the public. This year just given the state of the world we’re moving things to a virtual platform,” Davis said. Camp sessions will take place for an hour to an-hour-and-ahalf each afternoon. It’s free.

“Throughout the week we’re going to have presenters from the (National) Park Service and experts in their field presenting to students on an array of subjects,” Davis said.

They include the Arkansas Post National Memorial, Hot Springs National Park, Little Rock Central High School National Historic Site and more.

“Then the students will also hear from a professional poet and learn about writing prose and be able to sketch out a piece of poetry for themselves,” Davis said. “The first day of the camp will kick off with our site being presented and a couple of subjects about the National Park Service in general.”

The idea is to get youth engaged with National Park Service sites in their area, he said. They’re sites often visited by people from outside of the state.

Davis said youth outside of that target age rage can also apply for possible inclusion. Essential information, including Zoom login information, will be made available about a week ahead of time.
