Razorbacks split tournament to end season

SHERIDAN, Ark. — It was a fight until the finish.

The Texarkana Razorbacks kept their American Legion season alive in the state tournament with a afternoon win over Little Rock, while falling to Russellvil­le in the nightcap at Yellowjack­et Field.

Texarkana 5, Little Rock 3

Little Rock jumped on the scoreboard first in the bottom of the first inning, pinch runner Karabe Thrower scored from third on a errant throw to second base by the Razorback catcher, 1-0.

CJ Price drove in Jack Cleveland for the Vipers and KJ Merriweath­er drove in Price, giving Little Rock the three run advantage over the Razorbacks after two innings.

Price ended the contest going 1-1 with a RBI and run scored, while teammate Merriweath­er finished the day gping 1 for 3 with a RBI.

Drake Fontenot started on the bump for the Razorbacks. Fontenot went four innings, struck out three batters and gave up three runs.

Andrew Robertson put the Razorbacks on the scoreboard at the top of the sixth inning, driving in Silas Cowgill, cutting the Vipers lead to two runs, 3-1.

Robertson finished 2 for 3 with a RBI.

Gabe Parker crossed the dish for Razorbacks on a wild pitch, slicing the Little Rock lead to a run In the top of the sixth, 3-2

Roc Hawthorne tied the game with his triple off the right field wall, driving in Robertson from second base.

A Razorback pinch runner stole homeplate on a Little Rock wild pitch, giving the Razorbacks their first lead of the game, 4-3.

The Hogs scored all four runs in the top of the sixth inning.

Kade Garmany scored on a throwing error to third base by the Little Rock catcher, giving the Razorbacks a two score cushion, 5-3.

Parker Goodman received the win on the hill for the Razorbacks.

Russellvil­le 11, Texarkana 1

Brandon Bunting gave Russellvil­le an early lead with his

solo homerun over the leftfield fence in the top of the second inning, 1-0.

Bunting also started on the mound for the Pirates.

Caleb Trammel drove in Blake Chambers for Russellvil­le’s second run of the game in the top of the third inning.

Silas Cowgill drove in Ethan Brooks for the Razorbacks first run of the nightcap, bringing the Russellvil­le lead to a run, 2-1.

Cole Hapcoat drove in Ben Jones and Ty Hipps for Russellvil­le, giving the Pirates a 4-1 advantage at the top of the fourth inning.

Blake Chambers, Cole Dawson and Jordan Metcalf each added a RBI apicee for the Pirates, adding to the Russellvil­le cushion, 7-1, in the top of the fourth.

Ben Jones drove in Bunting for the Pirates at the top of the fifth inning, giving Russellvil­le a 8-1 lead.

Ty Hipps drove in Jones on the following at-bat, giving the Pirates a 9-1 lead.

Hipps scored on a errant throw from the catcher to third base.

Chambers drove in Hapcoat, giving the Pirates a double-digit lead, 11-1.
