- By Andrew Bell

TEXARKANA, Texas — The Pleasant Grove Independent School District plans to hold a meeting on Thursday at Pleasant Grove High School for a demonstration of the district’s instructional model.

PGISD Superintendent Chad Pirtle will give the demonstration.

Here’s what we know about the district’s instructional methods so far:

According to the PGISD 2020-21 returnto-school plan, the district is offering three different class options for students come fall — on-campus learning, remote synchronous learning and remote asynchronous learning.

On-campus learning will be the traditional, face-to-face learning environment students are accustomed to, but while following new health guidelines to prevent the spread or contraction of COVID-19.

Remote synchronous learning will include real-time, live class periods through a computer or other electronic devices for students learning at home. Students in this method will attend their virtual class schedule and must be available for live, synchronous instruction during each school day.

Remote asynchronous learning will be a process where students engage in learning materials on their own time, interacting intermittently with the teacher via computer or other electronic devices. Teachers will provide instruction, learning resources and support through the use of Google Classroom.

The meeting will also include the consideration and possible approvals of amendments to pay grades, 2020-2021 salary schedules and a technology position.

Following closed session, the consideration and possible approval of personnel items by director of school services Bill Harp, including resignations, terminations, employments, contracts and agreements, will be discussed.
