Scrappers soar past Bobcats
HOPE, Ark. — Rivalry high school football games always bring out the best of both communities involved.
The Nashville Scrappers defeated the Hope Bobcats Friday night at Bobcat Field in a nonconference football game, 42-20.
Kearon Brown scored a touchdown on a 8-yard run for the Bobcats with 8:00 left in the contest.
Brown scored for Hope on a 42-yard scamper through the Scrapper defense up the middle.
Ammorrion Dempsey snagged a interception as time expired in the end zone to end the third quarter for the Bobcats.
The sportsmanship 35-point mercy rule was enacted to begin the second half.
Ty Gordon dashed 13 yards for a Scrapper score to open up the second quarter with 11:54 remaining, giving Nashville a three-score cushion over the hosts.
La’Dainian Hendrix snagged his second interception of the game, this time taking it for a Nashville score with 10:21 left before halftime.
Hendrix score gave Nashville a 28-0 advantage. Keyshawn Stewart dove 3 yards for the Nashville in the second quarter for a touchdown with 6:59 left in the half.
De’Vay Ragland caught his second touchdown of the half, on a 25-yard strike from Gordon, giving Nashville a 42-point cushion over the Bobcats with 3:04 remaining in the first half.
Chelerome McFadden caught a 11-yard pass from Dempsey for Hope’s first score with 0:19 left before halftime.
Both teams traded turnovers to begin the game.
Hope was able to halt a Nashville scoring drive, causing a Scrapper fumble.
Hendrix snagged a Bobcat pass for a Nashville interception, flipping the field for his offense.
Ragland caught a 10-yard pass from Gordon for Nashville’s first score of the game with 7:22 left in the first period.
Dontrelle Robinson caught a pitch from Gordon and went 26 yards through the middle of the Bobcats defense for the Scrappers’ second touchdown of the quarter, with 3:22 remaining.
Penalties riddled Nashville’s scoring drive to end the first period. The Scrappers were flagged with an unsportsmanlike penalty that negated a 3-yard touchdown run.
