A&E’s ‘Biography’ takes on one of the biggest names in rock history

- By Rachel Jones

The real Ozzy: One of the biggest names of rock is at the core of the newest installment of A&E’s Emmy-winning Biography banner. “Biography: The Nine Lives of Ozzy Osbourne” will take you back to Ozzy Osbourne’s early life of poverty through his rise as the frontman of the mammoth rock band Black Sabbath, followed by his transformation into everyone’s favorite adorable 21st-century TV dad.The show premieres on Labor Day, Monday, Sept. 7.

The documentary, which is a full two hours long, will reveal how Ozzy has continued to evolve over the years, becoming more and more successful with each phase of his transformation.

As the Grammy regular turns 70, he looks back on the finest details of his life — ups, downs and in-betweens. He talks about his rare gift for perseverance, and the show includes previously unseen interviews about his recent Parkinson’s disease diagnosis. The documentary also features interviews with some of the people closest to Ozzy, such as his wife, Sharon (“Austin Powers in Goldmember,” 2002), and kids, Kelly (“Life as We Know It”) and Jack (“New York Minute,” 2004), along with friends both in and out of the music industry, from Ice-T (“Law & Order: Special Victims Unit”) to Jonathan Davis of Korn and more.

One of the show’s highlights is how busy the year 2020 has been for the famous musician. In February, he finished his first solo album in a decade, the critically acclaimed “Ordinary Man,” which went on to become the No. 1 rock album worldwide on the first day of its release. It is also Ozzy’s highest-charting album in all of his career.

Recorded in L.A., “Ordinary Man” features some of the most remarkable names across generations of rock, such as Andrew Watt (guitars), Duff McKagan of Guns N’ Roses (bass) and Chad Smith of the Red Hot Chili Peppers (drums).

The album also features Ozzy’s friends and collaborators such as Slash, Tom Morello and Sir Elton John himself. Osbourne Media and Critical Content created “Biography:The Nine Lives of Ozzy Osbourne” under the direction of R. Greg Johnston (“The Osbournes,” 2002).

Watch this iconic music legend tell all when the episode premieres Monday, Sept. 7, on A&E.

Property faceoff: The battle continues as twins Drew and Jonathan Scott return for a fresh season of “Brother vs. Brother,” premiering Wednesday, Sept. 9, on HGTV.

Drew and Jonathan try to top each other’s property renovation skills in L.A.’s legendary Hancock Park, where they fix two mansions for the six-week contest. In the end, the two houses will be compared, and the brother behind the property that makes the highest net profit will be declared the winner. Each of these homes is worth millions of dollars, but both also have their own limitations and weaknesses.

An elder brother to the twins, JD, joins in as the referee, while guest stars check out each twin’s work and pick their favorite design. HGTV stars such as Breegan Jane (“Extreme Makeover: Home Edition”) and Jasmine Roth (“Help! I Wrecked My House”) decide which twin wins at the end of each week.

Whoever loses suffers a round of humiliation, including being featured in an embarrassing blooper reel on Entertainment Tonight. The winner receives special rewards, such as a lead role in a superhero photo shoot or a heart-stopping stuntman experience.

“Brother vs. Brother” is not all fun and games, however. Its proceeds go to “Turn Up! Fight Hunger,” a movement that works to eradicate child hunger.

Starting Wednesday, Sept. 9, HGTV’s digital platforms also begin a new digital series, “Brother vs. Brother: Challenges Uncut,” with each episode following the TV airings.

Don’t forget, “Brother vs. Brother” premieres Wednesday, Sept. 9, on HGTV.

Comeback queen: And she’s back! “Tamar Braxton: Get Ya Life!” which stars the titular music star Tamar Braxton (“True to the Game 2: Gena’s Story,” 2020), premieres Thursday, Sept. 10, on WE.

Tamar is definitely back on track after losing almost everything, even herself, and she’s here to tell her tale in this brand new docuseries. Filled with shocking reveals and breakthroughs, this is the most real you’ll ever get from Tamar, and she has vowed to leave nothing out.

Lenses capture Tamar’s most vulnerable moments as she gives love a chance with her new boyfriend, David. She also reboots her music career, coparents with her ex and tries to patch up things with her family.

“Tamar Braxton: Get Ya Life!” was originally scheduled to premiere on July 30, but the star’s hospitalization prompted the network to postpone the season premiere.Tamar has been with WE for over a decade, and the network has been particularly supportive of her through her struggles.

Tamar designed the show herself, wanting to show an authentic picture of an independent and dynamic woman balancing her roles as a single mother, a lover and a singer. As the temporary setback caused by her health issues rolls out, fans are hopeful that she will get all the support she needs.

Catch the season premiere of “Tamar Braxton: Get Ya Life!” when it airs Thursday, Sept. 10, on WE.
