Habitat for Humanity seeking stud purchasers

- By Greg Bischof

REDWATER, Texas— The local Habitat for Humanity’s most recent home building project may soon start getting helping hands and finance.

The Texarkana Chamber of Commerce’s Greater Texarkana Young Professionals Committee is currently asking for businesses, individuals and civic clubs to help them build the most recent HFH home project.

GTYP President Caleb Mudford said the Committee has chosen and adopted HFH as one of four non-profit organizations this year, for which it wants to raise money for, in order to help further HFH’s cause and mission.

Since it takes 300 studs (eight-foot tall, two by four -inch pieces of lumber) to help secure the walls for an 1100-square-foot HFH house, Mudford is presently encouraging individuals, businesses and civic clubs to drop by the HFH office in the 2600 block of North Robison Road, and buy these studs for $100 a piece. Once purchased, these studs can be creatively painted and decorated as well as entered into a fundraising contest set for Sept. 18.

HFH Executive Director Mary Wormington said businesses, individuals and civic clubs can buy these studs in increments one, five or 10.

Once purchased, businesses and other stud buyers, seeking to enter the contest, can decorate their studs with their either their logos, or with phrases, or whatever they decide - provided that wording and images are clean and wholesome, Wormington said.

Presently, HFH’s most recent home building project is taking place in Redwater, Texas - a project that was initially started with a ground-breaking back in February.

Wormington said that the HFH is currently waiting for the ground to dry, in order for the future home’ concrete slab foundation to be poured - after which work on the home’s frame will start.

For more information regarding donations or volunteer labor, call Wormington at 903-8321746.
