LAST WEEK: Pleasant Grove fell to Argyle, 52-41, in a clash of top-ranked teams at Hawk Stadium.

THIS WEEK: The Hawks (1-1) travel to Paris (2-0) at 7:30 p.m. on Friday.

QB Jalen Woodside threw for 134 yards on 4-of-13 passing with two touchdowns and an interception. TE Landon Jackson caught a 55-yard TD pass, while teammate Alex Galvan hauled in a 24-yard pass for a score. Zac Hughes made two catches for 55 yards.

DEFENSIVE STANDOUTS: ILB Gage Stivers and ILB Carter each had 12 tackles. OLB Martin had nine tackles, to go with a tackle for a loss and a quarterback pressure.

COACH JOSH GIBSON’S COMMENTS: “We wanted all of our kids to play from the first snap until the last snap. That is why we were scoring at the end. We were getting stops and recovered an onside kick. We were not going to stop until that clock hit zeros. We get to come back, take a step and look at facing Paris.

“Depth was the biggest difference, and we knew it coming into the game. They had 81 players, and we had 35 healthy. I think our 35 battled their tails off tonight. I am proud of them. It is not a conditional thing. They do not have to win to make us happy. I told every single kid that in our huddle after the game. I love them, and they gave us everything they had.

“Logan (Johnson) battled so hard and wants to prove something. He doesn’t have a lot of offers, but he should. We tell him not worry about that stuff . ... He is a freak, and I am glad that he is a Hawk.”
