Filling the Vacancy

Should President Trump name new high court justice or should it wait until after election?

-

With the death of U.S. Supreme Court Associate Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg, there is a vacancy to be filled. President Donald Trump has indicated he will name a replacement Saturday. Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell says that body will hold confirmation hearings.

Critics say that’s hypocritical since McConnell and the Republican-controlled Senate refused to give President Barack Obama’s 2016 nominee Judge Merrick Garland a confirmation hearing, saying that confirmations in an election year should wait until after the November presidential election with the nominee chosen by the winner of that vote.

We want to know what you think. Should President Trump fill the Supreme Court post — and the Senate hold confirmation hearings — before the election? Or should the nominee be named by the winner in November?

Last Week: Pro Sports: Go or No?

Last week’s question was about politics and professional sports. Are you watching pro sports. Or have you turned the TV off because of politics?

I had already stopped watching any pro basketball and now, after the first weekend for the NFL, I will no longer watch any pro football, including the Dallas Cowboys, because too many of the unappreciative millionaires don’t realize what it means to show respect to our flag and nation, when the national anthem is played. As Mike Ditka said — “if you don’t like it here, go to some other country and see how you make out.” — J.L., Texarkana, Texas

■ Watching the NFL.

■ No sports, no news. They’re paid to do a job not tell us how they feel.

■ I watch Dallas Cowboy football and I always will.

■ I still watch and am proud to.If they want to kneel then that’s their right. I think that it’s a good thing that they’re trying to bring awareness to racism and social injustice. Someone should be trying to after all.The NFL will survive without the ” boycotters” watching it.

■ I stopped watching in 1984.

■ GO.

■ Not a fan of any specific team nor of the NFL, but love the sport. So I do watch.

■ Not at all.

■ I wouldn’t care if they all went down in flames myself.

■ I stopped watching the beginning, the half time and the end … it was football as usual.

■ Politics and sports goes as far back when Hitler had Germany hosted for their Olympics. This isn’t the 1st and won’t be the last time politics will broadcast along with sports.

■ Nope let them get their money from China were their views more aline.

■ No I don’t watch pro football.

■ NO NO NO.

■ Nope, stopped watching the year they wouldn’t let Tim Tebow bow.

■ No.

■ Not watching.

■ No pro sports for me!!

■ NONE for me.

■ No for my house.

■ No way.

■ No I don’t!

■ No for me.
