Rotary club will hold half marathon

NEW BOSTON, Texas — The West Bowie County Rotary Club announces the 5th annual Run the Rail half marathon from De Kalb to New Boston, Texas, on Saturday, Oct. 10.

This event is held along the Northeast Texas Trail for 13.1 miles, according to the West Bowie County Rotary Club. The trail consists of 10 miles of smooth dirt trail then three miles of asphalt through beautiful pines and hardwoods of Northeast Texas.

West Bowie County Rotary Club hosts this event to raise money for charitable activities that include: providing dictionari­es to all third-grade students in West Bowie County; providing Christmas clothing, gifts and food for needy families in the communitie­s; sending six highschool juniors to the Rotarian youth leadership camp; supporting local food banks and clothing programs; supporting local Special Olympics activities; and providing six $1,000 scholarshi­ps to high school seniors.

Sign up for this race online at runsignup.com/runtherail. Costs are: $55 for a single entrant, $45 each for a two-person relay, and $35 each for a four-person relay. High-school students may register at the discounted price of $25 for a single, two or four-person relay.

In-person registrati­ons is available Friday, Oct. 9, from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. and the Saturday morning of the race beginning at 6 a.m. at the New Boston, Texas, Pavilion located downtown at 200 S. Ellis St.
