TCS is riding the wave
TEXARKANA, Ark. — The Trinity Christian School football program is ascending.
Caleb Price is the head coach of the second-year program and also understands the importance of what a winning football culture will bring to their campus.
“Last year, was our inaugural year and we had three guys return from that team this year,” Price said. “We had a massive haul of players come in. We ended up with 17 varsity players this year, as opposed to having seven players last year. With that, most of them were first-year varsity players, except for the original three.
“This season somewhat became our second, first season. We had to reteach a lot of the basics but fortunately for us, we got that under our belt last year. Last season, we laid the foundation for everything. This season, we plan to move more efficient, so we can incorporate more. Overall, we have a great mixture of guys.”
The Warriors (0-2) are winless on the season, but TCS has feels its close to the team’s first win of the season.
Price also expects there to be a possible student-body growth with the addition of football at
Trinity Christian.
“That was one of the things that we talked about when we discussed adding football,” Price said. “We discussed what the next logical step was for our school to take and that was football. We’re building
up that Friday Night football culture. It helps your cheerleaders, because they’re able to go out and showcase more. Our cheerleaders are now at our football games, as opposed to starting to cheer in October or November for basketball.
“We don’t have a marching band yet but our band is growing. Once you have football, other things start to build around it as well. A lot of people like to go to high school football games and even if your kid doesn’t play, you like to root for the school that they attend. We have that now.”
The Warriors fell to Abundant Life in their last contest, 34-30, and take on Spring Hill tonight at 7 p.m.
“The season has been going pretty well,” Price said. “In the two games we’ve played, we’re one play away from the game going another way. Last week, we only lost by four points and they scored a touchdown in the last minute.
“With 8-man football, on offense or defense, if you miss a part of it, it could change the entire course of the game. No one has really seen our team come together yet. We’re starting to develop a little quicker than last year, so it’s really exciting to start the next portion of our season.”
